Let’s Ditch Gas!
Do you know how your workplace is heated? Heating oil? Gas? Dual energy? Does your union have a position on this issue?
The so-called “natural” gas used to heat workplaces accounts for 5.5% of Quebec’s total emissions—that’s equivalent to 1.6 million cars. Completely getting off gas is essential to achieving carbon neutrality, but it needs to be planned well in advance: necessary renovations must be scheduled properly, and above all, we must never replace equipment that’s reaching the end of its lifespan. Make sure your union is aware of this and can start putting pressure on the employer right now to make these changes happen without delay.
In every workplace, we demand:
- The elimination of heating systems that run on propane, gas, or heating oil as soon as they reach the end of their useful life, or by 2030 at the latest.
- The implementation of measures to reduce building energy consumption and to manage peak usage intelligently.
