General Assembly on Education for Ecological and Social Transition

Education is recognized as a major lever for transformation in the face of the socio-ecological crisis. However, the education system does very little to equip students to contribute to the transition in their civic and professional lives.

Initiated by WCJ and coordinated with FNEEQ-CSN, in partnership with teachers’ unions and student associations, the Transformations en cours project aims to transform the education system, based on a reflection on the sociocultural, economic, and political systems that are at the root of the socio-ecological crisis.

A national consultation of teachers and students is underway, which will culminate in the États généraux de l’enseignement pour la transition écologique et sociale (General Assembly on Education for Ecological and Social Transition). The event will be held from January 7 to 10, 2026, at Collège Montmorency. It will bring together 250 college and university delegates.

Through this project, we will develop:

  1. Policy resources: Public policy proposals, strategic mobilization table, proposed resolutions aimed at bringing the debate back to local unions and student associations.
  2. Educational tools: community of practice, professional development opportunities, and support for groups of teachers.

WCJ wishes to replicate this campaign in all sectors of activity. Our workers’ assemblies are already developing spaces for reflection and mobilization at the local level.
